About ‘Adding to the Beauty’

Ulasichs in IrelandAbout Us

We are a team – a wife and husband partnership of co-adventurers, companions, storytellers, and friends – who are privileged to have found each other.

We are learners, seekers of beauty, lamenters of brokenness, celebrators of humanity, affirmers of dignity, tellers of truth, listeners of stories, and lovers of the earth. We are tea drinkers, book readers, mountain trekkers, and world travelers. We write, we photograph, we speak, we love, we grieve violence in its many forms, and we hope for a better world.

About Adding to the Beauty

The world will be saved by beauty. -Dostoyevesky

Around the world we see pockets, small groups of people working for peace, justice and new life in their communities. They are women in Kolkata embracing freedom from sexual exploitation and oppression. They are families in Israel and Palestine, moving through grief and anger to build bridges of reconciliation. They are students in the Democratic Republic of Congo seizing the opportunity of education to transform their war-torn country. They are people washing dishes for elderly women, teaching art in homes for the destitute, and farming in ways that bring life back to the land and to communities.

They are the critical yeast that slowly works its way through the whole. They are giving us hope that God actually is making all things new. They are adding to the beauty.

We are here to tell the story.

About Our Journey

rusty-cross---bigThis is an 18-month multi-destination journey including stops in India, Nepal, Jordan, Israel, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This trip was crafted to explore, participate in, and share the stories of hope amidst brokenness. We believe in our partner organizations and want to come alongside, learn from, and contribute to the varied work they are doing.

This journey is not about measurable outcomes, but it is full of purpose. Here is a snapshot of our intent:

  • People First: To affirm the dignity, value, and worth of people as children of God by listening to and learning from their lives and stories

  • Prophetic Storytelling: To use storytelling, photography, and media to elevate the voice of the marginalized and communicate God’s heart for the oppressed to our communities in the US

  • Justice: Each of the organizations we are connecting with along the way plays a significant role in the pursuit of justice, whether through freedom from human trafficking, education, support for refugee communities, reconciling relationships amidst conflict, restoring the earth etc.

  • Service: We come as servants to each community, willing and available to offer help in whatever is most needed and appropriate.
